Diudiu on the stone path

Diudiu on the stone path

Diudiu is a corgi, the camp’s little dog. She has been here ten years, almost as long as Yesu itself.

When the building began it was very small, and spent its days trotting after the workers. While the stone path was being laid it walked right across it, and left a line of small paw prints in the joints before they had set. The path was finished, and the prints stayed in it.

In those years cattle from the valley often wandered onto the grounds. Whenever they did, Diudiu was out of the door before me, barking, helping me drive them back up the slope one by one. It is small and short in the leg, yet the cattle always gave way to it.

Ten years on, the paw prints are still in the path. Guests walk over them and hardly anyone notices. Every time I see them, I remember it as a puppy.
